What is OAFAC? what else have y'all done?
The Opelika-Auburn Film Arts Collective is a pop-up, experimental space for artists, cinephiles, outsiders, and anyone hungry for non-mainstream entertainment. For the past two years, we’ve hosted film screenings at The Jailhouse at Rock ‘n Roll Pinball, the live movie trivia event This Game Goes BOOM, the No Budget Cinema showcase for local filmmakers, Art Happening, Cabarets, and numerous stage / screen collaborations…

Why are you offering a workshop for teenagers this summer?
We believe our region is brimming with artistic talent and stories that deserve to be told across every demographic and age group. We want to create an experience for creative teenagers that connects them with their home in a fresh and exciting way and empowers them to tell their own stories. Our theory is that the future of our community will be brighter and more beautiful if we help young people express themselves.
-
Why should we trust you?
Our team has dozens of years of youth work experience as teachers, teaching-artists, professors, and parents. Spending a week with your kids is a huge honor and privilege and we promise to keep them safe. We’ll collect important health info before the workshop, have a first aid kit on deck, enough bottles of water to rehydrate an army, and we’ll keep you updated about what happens each day on our blog. If that’s not enough reassurance, we totally understand, but this is probably not the best fit for your child.
-
How many registration slots will be available this summer?
We have room for up to 12 participants this summer.
-
How will I know if my kid is registered?
Once you submit your registration form, we will follow up with a confirmation by mid-June.
-
If our plans change, how do we cancel our registration?
Email us at oafilmartscollective@gmail.com with the subject line No Budget Summer Film Workshop to let us know you’re giving up your registration slot.
-
Where do I drop off and pick up my kid each day?
We will send you a logistics email a week before the workshop with all this info in one place, but spoiler alert, you will be dropping off and picking up your kid from The Gallery in the back of Side Track Coffee.
-
What does my kid need to bring to the workshop?
They can just bring themselves and a desire to meet new people, try new things, and make art. If they have a video capture tool like a phone, tablet, or camera, and are willing to bring it, let us know in the registration forms!
-
Why is this workshop free?
It was important to us that no one who wanted to participate be turned away due to lack of funds. Diverse voices matter and the tools of storytelling should be accessible to all. Period.
-
How is this workshop free?
This program is dependent on the donation of time and resources from the community, including a suggested donation of $75.00 for those directly participating.
-
How do we donate?
We’ll send donation details in our registration confirmation and then share it again at the end-of-workshop film screening…
-
Will there be another workshop next summer?
Hopefully. :)
